I was thinking "Miracle Whip" was whipped cream. No, its some type of weird mayo like margarine stuff. Mak
more sense now. For a moment I thought you guys were just gross...

Ha! Hey, can't be any grosser than jam on Spam, especially since it comes with it's own jelly.

Maybe you were thinking of Cool Whip whipped cream?

Yes, I must have been thinking of Cool Whip. PRobably thought this was something similar.

How do you prepare the SPAM? Do you fry it first?

Sometimes, but not often. My preferred way is to broil it in a toaster
oven. I cut the spam into 6-8 slices (roughly 1/4 to 5/16" thick) and
broil them on a rack in a shallow pan, flipping over once to get both
sides crispy. Then take out and put on a plate with a paper towel to
soak the grease up a little. It's delicious. Goes well with eggs and
    rice, too.

I think the original post caused some of us to picture SPAM fresh out of
the can being eaten with jelly. ;) After you elaborated some more, I
figured you meant warmed or cooked somehow. I have used it cubed before in different dishes.

Once it is warmed or cooked, it tastes a lot more like ham which, although
I have never tried it, I can see going with jelly as part of a breakfast a
lot more than the original impression. :D

I think mayonnaise is one of those things that's not great by itself, an
it needs to be in (or with) another food to be good.

My wife dips her fries in mayo, and gets extra mayo on burgers. Needles to say, I can't watch her do it. lol

I do think mayo can be good on some things. Sometimes I like to get a Whopp from Burger King, and I think the combination of mayo and ketchup on it (alo with the condiments) gives it a good flavor.

I've heard mayo with fries is particularly popular in some other countries, it's not really my thing.

    Nightfox

I never really tried mayo with chips (fries), until I went to Europe, where it is standard there. Once I tried it there, I was sold. As long as its a nice creamy mayo, I prefer that with chips than tomato sauce now. Kewpie mayo is the best, the closest to what the Europeans use.

In Germany, people drink 1 or 2 beers with lunch! But they don't overdue
    it...

My favorites while I was there (7 years) were Wheat (Weizen) pils and Doppelbock (double strong - I think).

Weizen beer is brewed with more wheat than barley and it's very bubbly,
    and sort of light tasting.

Doppelbock on the other hand is very dark and strong. Watch out if you

And of course there is a brewery in every town!

Yes, I can see it now...the CeC animatronic band, each holding a stein, singing pub songs, slurring the words. Good times.

They *do* serve beer at Chuck-E-Cheese. Bud, and Bud Light - both kinds.
And all 3 kinds of wine, white, red and rose. I laughed when I saw the
wall taps arranged White/Rose/Red and assumed Rose was just a plumbing

There was a CEC in Tennessee that had to stop selling alcohol because of

Mayo + Ketchup I could probably do, but not mayo by itself. There are so many other better options out there than making myself gag. ;)
I hear Germany has some good mustard I wouldn't mind trying.

The mayo there tastes much different than in the US (IMO). Like I said,
I wasn't sure until I tried it. I will occasionally use mayo with my
    fries but not often.

isn't mayo just egg and oil whipped?

I've heard garbage disposals are very rare in Europe.. I don't know about other countries, but maybe it's mainly a North American thing that a garbage disposal is pretty much a standard kitchen item.

With a single sink, yes. If you have a double sink with a disposal on
one side and regular drain on the other, they seem to clog all the
time at the trap. Luckily, mine had a screw-in cleanout so I didn't
need to take the plumbing apart.

The mustards in Germany are great! There are so many types of
sausage with brotchen (hard rolls) that you can find a different
type of mustard on every corner. At least that's the way it was when
    I was there.

I bet, and I imagine "sausage with brotchen" is basically like a brat like here in the midwest? That's definitely something mustard is great on!

To be honest, my bucket list contains going to Germany for an Oktoberfest. I love brats and beer. What more could you ask for? ;)

10+ years with a double sided sink and only one side a disposal, and still running smooth. If something seems like it's jammed up or clogged, run a tray of ice cubes down the disposal, and voila!

Your powers of description are awesome! Mmmm...

IMO - it has a taste somewhere between bacon and hot dogs. It's salty

The fat globby stuff just rinses or wipes off.

it stopped being a magical place for kids.

I'd imagine kids will still have fun at these places, but when a parent goes through $20 for the kid to play only a few games, the fun is over and it's time to leave. When I was a kid, I could go hours at an arcade with only $5. Now, you need to basically take out a second mortgage on your house in order for your kids to have fun for a little while.

if we didn't have preservatives people would cry about the higher prices and how their food would spoil.

A lot of the drama regarding food preservation is done because of security concerns.

To be honest, most food can be canned using plain water, salt and a high preasure environment, but typically some regulatory body will demand your canned cucumbers get preserved in an acid environment at X PH and with Y concentration of salt - in order to prevent pathogens from growing in the food. At that point you pretty much need to add acidity correctors and other extras to the food because it would taste like lightning otherwise.

A whole lot of chemo in food does not make much sense, on the other hand.

You could have food distributed without preservatives in many cases, but people would need to switch their mentality regarding canned and vaccuum sealed food. We'd have to go back to the late 19th century days, in which you had to actually boil your canned food before it was remotely safe to eat. That's just not going to happen.

    Pomme frites and Bulgarian cheese.
The only thing missing is gravy.

    Sounds similar to poutine..

We all realized the viral cesspools of death that are BALL PITS.

Funny how we sometimes have or do something for so long (such as ball pits) and then suddenly a lot of people complain about it and they end up gone. Recently I've been seeing a good number of people saying they think cruse ships are similar cesspools of death due to germs/viruses. That may have started with covid though.. Around early 2020, I seem to remember hearing in the news that cruise ships were being quarantined in case anyone on the ships had covid.

I've been on a couple cruises, and I doubt there would be much significant increased risk of getting sick. I'd think jet airplanes are worse, since they're a closed and sealed environment.

What if to get an unlimited amount of

Which would you choose to give up?

People say the filtration systems in planes are pretty good these days,
but when I turn the air up and a blast of air hits me square in the
face, it gives me pause... :(

Cruises were notorious for norovirus and other transmittable nasties
long before covid. Trump not wanting a ship with COVID cases dock in
2020 because it might "mess with the numbers" didn't help.

Yeah, it's tough to think about how bad the FDA, USDA, and whatever alphabet soup food administrations have slowly been trying to kill us
all over the years. It would definitely be nice if that changed, and
    soon!

They're not trying to kill us, the companies that lobby against them
are. Sure, they could sell healthier food, but where's the profit
    margin in that?

And here I was thinking it was the FDA! Thanks PF, who knew?

I'd think jet airplanes are worse, since they're a closed and
    sealed environment.

While they are pressurized, they still bring in fresh air through vents in the cabin.

I guess that's true, they'd have to bring in fresh air somehow. I imagined that would be hard to do though, since jet airplanes fly at an altitude where the atmosphere is thin, and any opening would basically suck anything out.

While they are pressurized, they still bring in fresh air through vents in the cabin.

They use compressed air thru the engines intake what stages I can't remember also do the same with the auxillary power unit apu. The air is taken in the aircraft and fed thru a system called packs. There are redundant systems on a aircraft like two packs in case one fails.

I was a aircraft mechanic a long time ago, well still am the license are for life.

Apparently Americans used to incinerate their food waste, so that makes sense: https://wasatchresourcerecovery.com/do-you-incinerate-the-food-waste-no/

But never in my lifetime has my family regularly incinerated waste of any kind, so the pun while cute is probably lost on most people.
